Royal Deeside is scattered with historic castles, some of them ruins, some wonderful examples of the turreted confections so typical of Scotland. There are some lovely towns to discover on Deeside, from Balmoral, favourite summer haunt of the Royal Family, to Ballater, Aboyne and Braemar, scene of the famous highland gathering.
One of our Aberdeenshire lodge holidays is also the perfect excuse to discover the granite city of Aberdeen, now the oil capital of Europe. Provost Skene’s House, with its variety of period style rooms, is one of the highlights of the city, as are the many parks and gardens that bring colour to contrast with the grey stone of the buildings here.
