Nearby Leuk has fantastic thermal baths, while Zermatt, with its summer skiing opportunities and famous view of the Matterhorn, is a ‘must’ to visit and the Matterhorn itself is a simply unmissable day trip.

From Martigny: Join the motorway in the direction of Sion/Simplon/Sierre.
As you approach Sierre the new motorway ends and you should follow signs for Brig until you get to Süsten.
Immediately on entering Süsten you will see a garage on your left and a blue building on your right (reduce speed now).
100 m further on turn right into a narrow road immediately before a garage. (Camping Bella Tola is now sign-posted from here.)
Follow this road for a mile up a hill along a windy road through a forest.
You will see the campsite on your left shortly after some tennis courts. (N.B.The campsite is opposite the large satellite dish station on the other side of the valley.
If at any point you find the satellite dishes behind you, you know that you have missed the turning and you have gone too far.)

Largest fun and leisure park in Switzerland. Main attractions are the huge roller coaster, summer toboggan run, speedboats and pedalos. A miniature train runs through the park. Large restaurant and picnic area

Underground Lake of Saint Léonard
St Leonard, situated halfway between Sion and Sierre, has one attraction, which is one of the largest underground lakes in Europe. Buses run there from Sion and Sierre. Tours of the lake by rowing boat take 40 minutes. The entrance is just a small gap in the mountainside giving onto a very impressive cavern
Wine Museum, Sierre
Housed in the Château de Villa, the museum focuses on wine and all aspects of viticulture. Interesting displays in grape varieties and some old presses. The guardian is knowledgeable and will answer any questions you have on wine
Stockalper Castle
Situated at the foot of the Simplon pass, the Stockalper Castle is one of the most important buildings in Switzerland. Built between 1658 and 1678, it has a huge inner courtyard with three towers named after the three biblical kings
Grande Dixence Dam
The Grande Dixence Dam is the tallest concrete gravity dam in the world. It was built between 1951 and 1962 and is 285 mtrs high. There is an information centre for those visitors that are interested technically. There are guided tours of the inside of the dam. There are a number of good walking trails from the dam
